3-2-1 PENGUINS! - KENNEL CLUB BLUES
QUBO
Series: TV SERIES, AGES 5-8
Topic - Education/Instructional
Description - 3-2-1 Penguins! tells the story of two young kids (Jason and Michelle) and four out-of-this-world penguins as they explore the galaxy -- and learn important lessons and values along the way. In this episode, the Penguins are called upon to help find the lost pet of the emperor of the Planet Kennel.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - 3-2-1 Penguins! is a series of Christian animated shows kids ages 4-8. Produced by Big Idea Productions, the makers of VeggieTales, it teaches practical life lessons inspired by the Bible, generally applying a verse from the book of Proverbs to a realistic situation children face. The stories center on the exploits of Jason and Michelle, twin children who are staying with their eccentric grandmother for the summer. At her cottage, they discover a toy spaceship and four penguin figures. The penguins (named Zidgel, Midgel, Fidgel and Kevin) take the twins on trips around the universe, "inadvertently" teaching them valuable life lessons along the way. The series began to air in the qubo children's television block on NBC, Telemundo, and ION. In March 2007, Entertainment Rights, the new owner of Big Idea Inc., announced production on 20 new half-hour episodes of the series. The new episodes began airing on qubo and NBC in 2007.

A BAILAR LET'S DANCE! - SPANISH LEARNING SONGS CANCIONES INFANTILES

KIDS FIRST QUALIFIED ENDORSEMENT
A BAILAR LET'S DANCE! - SPANISH LEARNING SONGS CANCIONES INFANTILES
WHISTLEFRITZ LLC
Series: AUDIO CD, AGES 2-5
Topic - Music
Description - Songs that introduce kids to the Spanish words for numbers, letters, colors, body parts, directions and more. Authentic, upbeat, Latin rhythms include salsa, merengue, rumba, ranchera, corrida and rock n roll.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - This is a superb CD of children's songs - all in Spanish. The packaging is somewhat misleading because it touts the idea that it is "teaching" Spanish. This isn't really the case since there is no element here to attempts a language learning lesson. On the other hand, the music is pleasant and many of the tunes are ones that kids are familiar with such as Head and Shoulders; Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and The Alphabet Song. For a Spanish speaking family, this is perfect but, if you're trying to learn Spanish, don't expect this to do that.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Kids immediately started moving to the beat of the first song and were quite interested in the music for the first four songs. After that, it was difficult to hold their interest as they didn't understand what the songs were about. Even when coached by an adult to listen to the Spanish words of familiar tunes, they lost interest.

ADVENTURES OF WALKER AND PING PING: THE CHINESE MARKET (LEARN CHINESE)
LITTLE EMPEROR LLC
Series: SHORT, AGES 2-5
Topic - Education/Instructional
Description - A quick shake of the joss sticks and our heroes Walker and Ping Ping are off on their adventures through China. In this episode, our favorite group of explorers heads to the busy alleyways of a Chinese street market.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Wonderful show that explores Chinese culture and language. The premise of the show, of an American boy moving to China and learning about his new home, provides the perfect opportunity for his exploration. Brilliantly colored, 2D animation. Very engaging. The animation is well done with truly spectacular use of light. The score is wonderful. It is hip with a classic Chinese sensibility to it and the theme song as well as other songs are catchy and well produced. This offers a great way to learn some vocabulary in Mandarin Chinese. The story is fun and the animation beautiful. The key character, Walker provides a good guide for exploring Chinese language and lifestyle. The structure is somewhat like a Chinese version of the best-selling series, Dora the Explorer. The storyline is simple enough for young children to follow and well paced. Excellent production quality. Their website offers additional information and insight.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Outstanding! Kids loved it. They loved learning how to make Chinese food and about Chinese culture, art and language. (They learned how to say "nee hau.") Many repeated the Chinese words throughout the show. They really enjoyed the music and danced around to the song that came on in the middle of the program. They understood that they were learning about things in the Chinese market. The colors and sound were well appreciated, as was the music. One boy had been to the Chinese market and knew how to use chopsticks. Two tried to copy the calligraphy afterwards.

KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Wonderful animated exploration of Chinese culture and language, explored through the eyes of an American boy, Walker who has moved to China and is learning about his new surroundings. Brilliantly colored, 2D animation. Very engaging, adorable characters, great animation, excellent musical score. Walker and his dog meet a young girl, Ping Pink who becomes his guide for exploring China and its language. It follows a simple storyline that provides a little adventure young children can relate to. Ping Ping's Grandpa takes the children to the Great Wall of China where they learn about its history. The characters are very respectful and the scenes are very interesting. Very good production quality. Introducing children to a new culture is always a good idea. Since the Beijing Olympics have put China at the top of today's news stories, kids' curiosity is peeked about this country on the other side of the world. What a great opportunity to turn that interest into a lesson that will serve kids well. Learning about China and its culture is a very timely thing. For additional information, visit their website: http://www.walkerandpingping.com

KIDS FIRST QUALIFIED ENDORSEMENT
ADVENTURES WITH CONNOR & JADEN, VOL. 2: WINGS, SCALES AND TAILS
BOOGIEBUBBLE PRODUCTIONS, INC.
Series: INDEPENDENT SHORT, AGES 2-5
Topic - Family
Description - Connor and Jaden explore the fascinating animals at the zoo and then experience the living environment of the butterfly. Upbeat music along with educational facts will transport young children to a destination of adventure.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Good concept since it allows toddlers an opportunity to watch children similar to themselves on the screen - something that doesn't happen often for kids in this age group. At the same time, kids are learning something about animals. Be forewarned that the production is very amateurish with low resolution video and shaky camerawork. The segments are a bit sloppy at times and the dialogue lacks wit. But, at the same time, it's appealing to toddlers, especially with the youth narrator. The cover art is very unappealing.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Kids enjoyed watching this and wanted to watch it again as well as share with their friends. The animals were a bit hit, as were the onscreen toddlers. "We like the zoo." Its energy is contagious. "After viewing, the kids were begging us to take them to the zoo." The kids laughed, danced and talked about their favorite things to do. Even the kids mentioned the cover art though - they didn't want to watch it when first shown the cover.

KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - The two-year-olds loved it. They described the pictures and what they saw. One child asked to watch it again. They loved seeing the water and the playground and kept saying "babies." They talked to the screen about what they saw. Good length.

ADVENTURES WITH WINK AND BLINK: DAY IN THE LIFE OF A ZOO!, A
LAUREL HILL ENTERTAINMENT
Series: ADVENTURES WITH WINK AND BLINK
Topic - Family
Description - Young viewers join fun pals Wink & Blink on an interactive trip to the zoo. Along the way they'll learn about lots of animals, they'll discover what it's like to be a zookeeper, and they'll even tag along with the zoo vet on a barn-yard house call.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Enjoyable with lots of useful information and footage of zoo animals but the presentation doesn't always stay relevant for its target audience. The visuals and general content are just right for preschoolers but some of the information is too advanced for them such as the concept of carnivores, herbivores, and onmivores. Also, the magic door game where children have to find clues about a mystery animal is far too complicated for younger children.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Liked the footage of the zoo animals. One two-year-old kept putting her hands on the floor and walking on all fours every time she say the apes or monkeys saying they walk like this. Kids wanted to watch it again immediately and pointed out their favorite animals as reasons why. The clue game with the puzzle keys was very confusing and needed explaining. The two's ignored the game completely and the older kids kept asking questions about it.

BALD EAGLE MEDIA, INC.
Topic - Education/Instructional
Description - Join Rudy, the giant Bald Eagle, as he flies across America with his friends to visit the country's most awe-inspiring landmarks.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Educational and entertaining. Good music, animation, historical information. Well structured as Rudy, the bald eagle takes the kids on an exploration of America. Traditional songs are played throughout the film. Monumental figures are very descriptive of the roles they played in American history. They are very animated with distinct personalities. The only short-coming is that it lacks information about Blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans, or women in history. More information than a pre-schooler can fully absorb but it is fun, not confusing, and well animated.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - A hit with 4 - 6-year-olds. One four-year-old has asked repeatedly to watch it again and again, even though it's a bit long, his attention hasn't wavered during three screenings. "I like the eagle who flew them around and sang. I like everything about it - a lot!." Even the quiz is a hit. "Stuck a feather in his cap and called it macaroni" was a new and humorous idea to some. A special needs child commented, "It was happy." "I want to go to those places."

Description - Teacher Emily teaches kids how to draw using basic shapes with step by step instruction, energetic songs by award winning composer Peter Scatturro and colorful animation by Simpson's animator Brad Ableson.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Nicely done. Teaches kids how to draw animals using basic shapes. It's broken up well - one animal at a time. The music videos are cute and upbeat. It breaks down the drawing process into simple steps. The on-camera talent is appealing, both the host/teacher and the kids. Bright, colorful and good audio. The background music is a bit monotonous but the music videos are terrific. "This same drawing method was used to wonderful results at my son's preschool." Because the process is simplified, kids can feel competent right away.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Kids stayed connected to the video until the end. One three-year-old did not participate but watched the entire thing. Children 4-9 stayed focused throughout and the youngest wanted to watch it again, a couple right away. The oldest child (9) thought the presentation a little young but he enjoyed the activity of learning to draw the monkey best. One 4-year-old said, "I liked it a lot. I learned how to draw stuff and it was fun to see it come to life." "I liked the dinosaur when he acted silly. He made bubbles in his drink and his eyes rolled around funny." KIDS FIRST ALL STAR
BABY CHINA
B ME COMPANY
Topic - Education/Instructional
Description - Takes non-Chinese speaking children on a fun journey of the language, culture and music of China. Has three sections: body/sign language; the language of music and expressive language.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Well done. Great continuity. What is terrific is the story that is constructed out of the words so that rather than being a random assortment of disconnected words, they begin to make sense in the context of the storyline. Also great is that many illustrations are given for a single word such as fire truck showing a real fire truck as well as a toy fire truck. We did not have a Chinese speaker evaluate it so we can't judge it in terms of accuracy. However, in terms of child development, it is suitable for young learners and if the words are accurate, presented well. Interactions among the toy characters are respectful. i.e. during the story, the characters help one another. Word choice is good, repetition good. It's a reminder that the toys are in a human context when a human hand moves into the screen to manually manipulate the toys. There was a slight technical problem at the onset of playing it but it straightened out shortly thereafter. At the end is a section for parents that serves as a review for the words. No English words are used in the teaching - only Chinese words. But, they are clearly illustrated. This program appeals to a special audience - those interested in learning Chinese. It is not for general entertainment.

Series: BABY FELIX AND FRIENDS
Topic - Family
Description - Each episode follows Baby Felix the Cat and his magic bag of tricks as he embarks on a journey full of adventures. Also along for the journey are his friends, Baby Kitty, Mimi, Skippy, Mookie and Tattoo.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Seeing cartoon characters from my youth was enjoyable but some of the messages here are not in good taste. There is a lot of emphasis on cheating and misleading. It's all in fun but sends a poor message to viewers. For example, Baby Felix doesn't like how the other team is playing so he starts cheating by stealing bases and blocking pitches to the other team. A member of the other team shows anger by slamming his bat into the ground repeatedly.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - It's great. It's fun. Even the kids noticed the poor behavior and commented on it. "They remind me of Grandpa and us when they go fishing. The bulldogs remind me of some of the kids at school who are bullies. Get it? Bull dogs -bullies." "If you could really have a fishing contest, it would be fun."
