KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - This is a superb CD of children's songs - all in Spanish. The packaging is somewhat misleading because it touts the idea that it is "teaching" Spanish. This isn't really the case since there is no element here to attempts a language learning lesson. On the other hand, the music is pleasant and many of the tunes are ones that kids are familiar with such as Head and Shoulders; Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and The Alphabet Song. For a Spanish speaking family, this is perfect but, if you're trying to learn Spanish, don't expect this to do that.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Kids immediately started moving to the beat of the first song and were quite interested in the music for the first four songs. After that, it was difficult to hold their interest as they didn't understand what the songs were about. Even when coached by an adult to listen to the Spanish words of familiar tunes, they lost interest.

The only down side are scenes of playing hide and seek in holes and crevices which are potentially dangerous. It does stress safety and using proper equipment at all times.

Ocie is definitely not the "normal" little girl from the late 1800s and for that, this story is a bit of a stretch. However, for girls of contemporary times, her story is believable and entertaining following her trevails to becoming what was accepted as a "lady."

Teddy has great adventures and the program is quite educational. The pace changes continually throughout the presentation making it fun and engaging. Good storyline. Production slightly amateurish. Teddy and Tempest act like typical 6-year-olds. "I loved the brain workout at the end with the other questions about the content." The animation of the animals is also well done. "I would like to see the mouths of the characters match their words." It celebrates diversity, culture, intelligence, movement and environmental consciousness. Kids will relate to the idea of traveling in a spaceship, going on a journey and exploring other "worlds." There are some scenes that might be too scary for younger kids.

The premise of the show, of an American boy moving to China and learning about his new home, provides the perfect opportunity for his exploration. Brilliantly colored, 2D animation. Very engaging. The animation is well done with truly spectacular use of light. The score is wonderful. It is hip with a classic Chinese sensibility to it and the theme song as well as other songs are catchy and well produced. This offers a great way to learn some vocabulary in Mandarin Chinese. The story is fun and the animation beautiful. The key character, Walker provides a good guide for exploring Chinese language and lifestyle. The structure is somewhat like a Chinese version of the best-selling series, Dora the Explorer. The storyline is simple enough for young children to follow and well paced. KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Outstanding! Kids loved it. They loved learning how to make Chinese food and about Chinese culture, art and language. (They learned how to say "nee hau.") Many repeated the Chinese words throughout the show. They really enjoyed the music and danced around to the song that came on in the middle of the program. They understood that they were learning about things in the Chinese market. The colors and sound were well appreciated, as was the music. One boy had been to the Chinese market and knew how to use chopsticks. Two tried to copy the calligraphy afterwards.

The characters are very respectful and the scenes are very interesting. Very good production quality. Introducing children to a new culture is always a good idea. Since the Beijing Olympics have put China at the top of today's news stories, kids' curiosity is peeked about this country on the other side of the world. The segments are a bit sloppy at times and the dialogue lacks wit. But, at the same time, it's appealing to toddlers, especially with the youth narrator. The cover art is very unappealing.

Also, the magic door game where children have to find clues about a mystery animal is far too complicated for younger children.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Liked the footage of the zoo animals. One two-year-old kept putting her hands on the floor and walking on all fours every time she say the apes or monkeys saying they walk like this. Kids wanted to watch it again immediately and pointed out their favorite animals as reasons why. The clue game with the puzzle keys was very confusing and needed explaining. The two's ignored the game completely and the older kids kept asking questions about it.

The wildlife cinematography is stunning with amazing images of African wildlife. The audio is the "voice" of an older giraffe telling the story of the three antelope males. They do an excellent job showing how hunting is about survival rather than sport. The animal parents are shown as good providers. The film hooks you immediately with images and humor. The giraffe tells the story about the antelopes, alluding to her own story at various points so it arouses your curiosity and keeps you engaged in the story. It is chocked full of interesting animal facts such as the animals jumping in the air to warn others of danger. It does show animals killed in hunt which is something that may bother sensitive viewers. Excellent production values - crisp images, clear and pleasing narration.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Kids loved it. "I'd love to be a giraffe so I could see from very high. The giraffe can see everything probably." "Some of the scenes are funny and look like they should be on "America's Funniest Videos." The kids were concerned for the animals that were given names but not upset about the kills once they found out the main characters were okay. They talked to the screen to tell the animals to run.

Description - The inspirational story of Akeelah Anderson (Keke Palmer), an eleven-year-old girl from south Los Angeles with a gift for words. Despite the objections of her mother Tanya (Angela Bassett), Akeelah enters various spelling contests, for which she is tutored by the forthright Dr. Larabee (Laurence Fishburne); her principal Mr. Welch (Curtis Armstrong) and the proud residents of her neighborhood. Akeelah's aptitude earns her an opportunity to compete for a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee and, in turn, unites her neighborhood who witness the courage and inspiration of one amazing little girl.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Great family film with great values, story, great acting and a fantastic script. Keke Palmer's performance is fabulous as is Mr. Fishburne's. Though the storyline is somewhat predictable and some of the characters a bit shady, the "underdog comes through" message is a heart-warmer. Winner of KIDS FIRST! Best Feature and Best of Fest for 2006. Contains some mild profanity, intense family scenes, local gangs, an unwed mother and a joke about sexual harassment.
