I love animals and after watching the adventurous movie Flicka, I decided I want a horse instead of a cat! This movie is about a girl named Katie who grows up on a ranch with a major passion for horses. She falls in love with a wild Mustang and wants to train it to be her own. However, her father is completely against it because he feels wild Mustangs cannot be trained and will cause trouble for his ranch and other horses, which it does. The plot of the story is about a girl wanting to raise a wild Mustang she names Flicka on her own to prove to her father she is responsible and capable of taking care of the family ranch, unlike her brother who chooses to leave for college instead.

This movie captured my attention because it's an emotional and dramatic piece and the background music enhances all that. I didn't know what was going to happen next which keeps me on the edge of my seat. It's shocking to see Flicka stand on her hind legs to scare a lion away. There are many climaxes in this movie such as when Katie, against her father's orders, tries to catch Flicka with a rope but falls off her horse. Flicka escapes dragging Katie on the ground then runs near the ranch startling the other horses who all take off following Flicka heading towards a cliff. Katie's father chases Flicka down, ropes her and gets Flicka to turn just before she runs off the cliff with all the other horses. When you least expect it there is more excitement and at the end, Katie makes her most dangerous attempt to get Flicka back.

My favorite character is Flicka because she is fierce horse. Katie, played by Alison Lohman, is just like her, fierce and also determined. Tim McGraw plays Katie's father. He realizes in the end that he is just like Katie. The entire cast is great!

The moral of this story is when you are passionate about something, fight for what you believe in and follow your heart. This movie is perfect for ages 11 through18. Even if you are not familiar with ranches or horses it's a great film with life lessons for the entire family, even parents.

I give it five out of five dazzling stars! Reviewed by Haley Powell, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 11.

Great film, beautifully made. Stunning cinematography of Wyoming. True to the original story. Alison Lohman plays Katy in a very credible way - not always the most charming teen, and very believable. Tim McGraw's acting is only surpassed by his music. Ryan Kwanden's role of Katy's brother should not be overlooked, nor should Maria Bello's.
In this contemporary motion picture adaptation of Mary O'Hara's beloved novel My Friend Flicka, 16-year-old Katy McLaughlin (Alison Lohman) dreams of fulfilling her family legacy by working on her father's ranch in modern-day Wyoming. But Katy's father wants more for her, insisting that Katy go to college. Katy finds a wild mustang, which she names Flicka, and sets out to make her a riding horse. But Flicka and Katy are more alike than she could have imagined. Like Katy, Flicka has a disdain for authority and is not about to give up her freedom without a fight.
