BERENSTAIN BEARS: FAMILY AND FRIENDSHIP cover image
This is a solid and appropriately crafted animation for young children. Very traditional and well-developed and engaging story lines that are always focused on an issue related to handling feelings, or contrasting different ways in which people do things or act. There are graphically beautiful scenes of the farmland, roads and homes in what appears to be a rural setting. The music, ambient sound and noticed but are not overwhelming. There are many social and personal challenges that both the younger bears as well as the adults encounter. However, everyone is involved in either resolving or part of working through the problem or emotional issue. Definitely, there is a range of contemporary issues (email versus regular mail) as well as lifestyle issues (a new neighbor mother bear who rides a motorcycle), and issues such as making friends or dealing with emotions like jealously. It is incredibly pro-active in its approach to presenting and resolving problems or dilemmas in the story line. New knowledge, language development, and problem-solving (more in the social and emotional realm) are presented
