HAPPY DUCKLING, THE cover image
Fabulous! This unique style of animation is outstanding and original. I love how we see the page turning and the flaps opening. The storyline is equally unusual, like the duck wanting to play "fetch" as if it was a dog. There is a scene when the duck knocks down a whole row of sheep as if they are dominoes and another with a water wheel that is ingeniously created. Really, the whole thing is so unusual and something that any budding animator would get a kick out of.
Gold Award, KIDS FIRST! Best 2009. An animated adventure set in a pop-up book world. Assembled and led by writer/director Gili Dolev, a team of students from two rival universities in Dundee, Scotland sketched their design and animation muscles to create this film in only nine months. Accompanied by a whimsical score from composer Mick Cooke of Belle and Sebastian, the film follows the antics of a young boy in his struggles against a STACKING DUCK! In this pop-up book world, expect the unexpected. Surprises aplenty behind every flap opened and every tab pulled.
