This story is very much a fairy-tale, with charming heroes and heroines, interesting oddities particular to a strange world (like backwards aging which results in eternal life,) wishes that come true and happy endings. The story demonstrates that good people win, while the bad guys don't, but that even a thief can change from bad to good and have his own happy ending. It creates a magical and pleasant world that kids will enjoy, without any strenuous conflicts. Very beautiful imagery shows the writers extreme attention to detail. The colors she chooses for Poppy and Rembrandt's hair and attire, the changing faces as the characters get younger, the unique posts in the Pleasure Garden are easy to picture for an animated film. This story is appropriate for all ages.
Our young hero learns he is not who he thought he was and goes in search of an new life. Finally, he stumbles into a secret mountain kingdom where outsiders are not welcome.
