Do you believe in gnomes? You just might after watching the film "Magic Silver" In this sweet, foreign film, Princess Blue Rose must try to save her father's life. He is the king of the Blue Gnomes, and becomes very ill, no longer able to see colors. If his illness continues, he will eventually die. Princess Blue Rose knows that the magical talking mountains will know a cure, so she goes to consult with them. They tell her that the only cure is money, as all humans, who they consider to be evil beings, cure their illnesses with expensive medicines.

The princess knows that she must journey out of their kingdom in order to find money, since this is something that only humans possess. Unfortunately, leaving her home is Blue Rose's biggest fear. The risks involved are huge, as all gnomes know that if a human looks at a gnome, he will instantly disappear.

Blue Rose is able to conquer her fears, sled down her mountain and find the King Of The Red Gnomes who knows where to find human money. This adventure leads her into more danger than she realizes. Not only does she steal from a farmer, but then a human believes the red gnomes are responsible and comes after them and the Princess! Well, the Blue Gnomes have always had a sacred rule of NEVER bringing anyone back to their kingdom, but because of Blue Rose's predicament, she breaks this rule and has her entire village turn against her.

I give this film four out of five stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 12. Since English is subtitled, reading ability is a must. "Magic Silver" is now available at Kidflix Global. Check it out, since this is the best foreign film I've seen!

Magic Silver has visual appeal and is a wonderful family adventure. You should know that the dialogue is in Norwegian with English subtitles. Children who are not fast readers may have difficulties with this. However, it has many redeeming elements. It is filled with many social elements from being brave and having courage, to not judging others unfairly, not to steal from others, to helping others and true friendship. Princess Bluerose's journey is remarkable and children would definitely benefit from watching as she conquers her fears and helps to rescue the world from eternal darkness. It is nicely produced.
Princess Bluerose lives with the Blue Gnomes in the mountains of Norway. One day the Gnomes' Magic Silver is stolen. Without Magic Silver the earth is plunged into darkness. The Princess must overcome her great fears in order to rescue the world from eternal darkness and save her father's life.
