KIDS FIRST! Film Critics just finished reviewing Disney's film, "Tangled" and we wanted to share these with you. Here's a twist on the classic tale, Rapunzel with a new, up-to-date approach.
Storyline:
When the kingdom's most wanted-and most charming-bandit Flynn Rider (voice of Zachary Levi) hides out in a mysterious tower, he's taken hostage by Rapunzel (voice of Mandy Moore), a beautiful and feisty tower-bound teen with 70 feet of magical, golden hair. Flynn's curious captor, who's looking for her ticket out of the tower she's been locked away in for years, strikes a deal with the handsome thief, and the unlikely duo sets off on an action-packed escapade, complete with a super-cop horse, an overprotective chameleon and a gruff gang of pub thugs. Tangled is a story of adventure, heart, humor and hair-lots of hair.
Blue-ray Bonus Features
- Untangled: The Making of a Fairy Tale. Mandy Moore and Zach Levi take viewers on a kooky behind-the-scenes tour to learn how the filmmakers styled this film's "Golden Tresses."
- Deleted Scenes - Co-directors Byron Howard and Nathan Greno introduce three scenes and illuminate why they were ultimately cut.
- Extended Songs - The complete versions of two great songs are shared in a unique feature that explains the co-directors decision to scale them down.
- 9 Tangled Teasers - A collection of unique and quirky commercials made for the theatrical release of "Tangled."
- And more...
KIDS FIRST! Adult Reviewers had this to say: The movie leaves you thoroughly entertained, complete with catchy tunes by the immensely talented Alan Menken, a laugh-out-loud funny script by Dan Fogelman (Cars; Bolt), and engaging performances by the vocal cast. There is a lot to enjoy here. Particularly fun are the animal characters - a horse who thinks he's a dog and a chameleon side-kick with a wicked tongue - and the gang of baddies turned goodies dubbed the Pub Thugs who, down deep, are just sensitive, frustrated artists. The film is rated PG for sequences of cartoon violence - Rapunzel's weapon of choice is a cast-iron frying pan which she uses with authority to protect herself. Very young children might find Mother Gothel to be a slightly frightening character, especially when she meets her demise. Otherwise, the film is suitable for all ages. (My husband who generally dislikes musicals and my twin 7th graders - boys - all loved it, if that's any indication!).

Get Tangled Up in Fun!

Tangled, Disney's newest Princess fairy tale is based on the classic Rapunzel story. You know, the girl with the long hair, trapped in the tower? Tangled stars Mandy Moore, who has a voice like an angel. She is brave but shy because she's never stepped foot out of her tower. Zachery Levi, as the male lead, Flynn Rider, is no Prince Charming. He's a scamp, even a thief! But that's what makes him interesting.
I love all the fabulous new songs by the great Alan Menken, who created the musical magic of "The Little Mermaid," "Enchanted," and "Beauty and the Beast" along with many other Disney classics. The movie starts with "When Will My Life Begin," a sing-a-long song that really gets you going. It tells how Rapunzel is frightened of the real world but excited to give it a try. The song "Mother Knows Best" sets the stage for the horrible tangle Rapunzel finds herself in. She wants to obey her mother, but her heart tells her to >follow her dream, even if it leads to trouble.
I give this movie five-out-of-five stars, and recommend it for all ages. My Dad didn't think he'd like it, but he was smiling all the way through. (I think he saw a little of himself in that rascal Flynn Rider). If you like a classic story, great songs and one BIG adventure, this is the DVD for you. Fun, fun, fun for the whole family!

Go On and get Tangled!
A review by Raven Devanney
The story we all grew up with is back and better than ever. The lovable tale of Rapunzel is here with an all new comical and musical twist, and things are about to get "Tangled!" I really enjoyed this film. The music is excellent and extremely funny. The voice of Mandy Moore as Rapunzel is fantastic. She is really talented. She is totally perfect for Rapunzel's bubbly voice and character, while empowering viewers to follow their hearts. Plus, she can really sing. Her voice is super clear, and I really loved hearing her beautiful singing.
Zachary Levi, the voice of the kingdom's most wanted bandit, Flynn Rider, is amazing! Just listening to him talk makes me laugh. He does an excellent job.
The colorful animation is great as well and adds brilliance to a familiar story. I wasn't sure how I would like this movie, especially because of the fact that it is a musical, but I was so surprised how much I fell in love with it. My favorite character is Maximus, Flynn Rider's blood hound of a horse. I like this character because of his hilarious facial expressions and outstanding personality. My absolute favorite scene that sticks with me is the montage right after Rapunzel leaves the tower with Flynn, because she is totally battling with herself.
This movie is most definitely for all ages, even teens. So if you want a good laugh, and awesome animation, then this movie is perfect for you.
So go on and get Tangled!!!
