Weekend Events Open October 5th During the Los Angeles International Children’s Film Festival at the LA County Museum of Art
(Santa Fe, NM)—The Coalition for Quality Children’s Media is proud to announce that its 8th Annual KIDS FIRST! Best Day and Awards Celebration will take place Sunday, October 7th at the magnificent Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, CA. This year’s very special host will be Mallory Lewis and Lamb Chop, recipients of the 2007 KIDS FIRST! Palmer-Vision Award. The full weekend of events will kick off on Friday, October 5th with a special 20th Anniversary screening of “The Princess Bride,” and culminate with the IDS FIRST! Awards Ceremony, Sunday at the Calamigos Ranch.
“This year, we have reached yet another record number of films from which to choose, as the KIDS FIRST! Film Festivals continue to grow throughout the country,” said Ranny Levy, Founder, KIDS FIRST! “Both filmmakers and families are recognizing the importance of our KIDS FIRST! programs, and how vital films in our festivals are to the film community at large. Coupled with the honor of having Mallory Lewis, daughter of beloved children’s entertainer Shari Lewis, as a host, all attendees will be in for quite a special weekend.”
In addition to the five “Best of Fest” Award winners, this year’s KIDS FIRST! Best Awards are divided into the following categories:

New this year are three sponsored awards that come with distribution deals: Moving Pictures Film & TV’s award honoring filmmaking with a social impact; and Feature Films for Families’ two awards honoring films and screenplays telling uplifting stories and displaying positive values.

Following Friday night’s film presentation of “The Princess Bride,” the weekend’s events continue on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. as the Los Angeles International Film Festival will present a full day of KIDS FIRST! Programming at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
On Sunday, October 7th, the activities at Calamigos Ranch begin at 1:30 p.m., with an afternoon of industry seminars and discussions, followed by the Awards Celebration at 3:30 p.m., and culminating with “Dinner and a Movie” from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
