This is a good film. We would watch it again. "Some kids wouldn't like it because it doesn't have lots of action." "I like how the kids got together to protest the bad treatment of Jake because they really liked him. By not taking baths, they got everyone's attention." "He reminded me of my grandpa. If someone was going to take his property away, I would help him! We could protest and not take baths just like these kids." "Jake was Afrtican American and the kids who stood up for him were Anglo." "The teacher was a good influence."
A powerful title with children taking a stand for what they believe in, based on their learning about Martin Luther King Jr.'s civil rights lessons. Solves differences based on one's sense of dignity to help someone who has been unfairly treated. Very well produced. References to the Montgomery boycott, Rosa Parks and Dr. King is timely even today. The message about passive protest is well presented.
