{"id":116,"date":"2009-04-09T12:15:17","date_gmt":"2009-04-09T19:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/kidsfirstnews\/2009\/04\/09\/fifteen-aspiring-young-filmmakers-will-have-their-work-featured-on-national-tv-deadline-april-20-2009\/"},"modified":"2009-04-09T12:15:17","modified_gmt":"2009-04-09T19:15:17","slug":"fifteen-aspiring-young-filmmakers-will-have-their-work-featured-on-national-tv-deadline-april-20-2009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/kidsfirstnews\/2009\/fifteen-aspiring-young-filmmakers-will-have-their-work-featured-on-national-tv-deadline-april-20-2009\/","title":{"rendered":"Fifteen Aspiring Young Filmmakers Will Have Their Work  Featured on National TV &#8211; Deadline April 20, 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kidsfirst.org\/images\/blogs\/ZimmerTwins.jpg\" \/>In response to the phenomenally successful first round of <strong>qubopics<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>premieres,<strong> qubo<\/strong>, the TV and online entertainment service for children and families, will again select user-generated short animated films to debut on national TV.\u00a0\u00a0 Between now and April 30, 2009<\/u>, aspiring young filmmakers can create mini animated movies at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/qubo.com\/\">qubo.com<\/a><\/u> using the innovative storytelling web application called <strong><em>ZIMMER TWINS<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0Fifteen films will be selected by <strong>qubo<\/strong> to be professionally adapted into fully animated mini movies and screened on national TV this summer on <strong>qubo<\/strong><strong> Channel <\/strong>as well as on <strong>qubo\u2019s<\/strong> broadcast blocks on NBC,  ION Television and Telemundo.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Launched on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/qubo.com\/\">qubo.com<\/a><\/u> in the fall of 2007, the Zimmer Twins, Edgar and Eva, are animated characters featured in interactive cartoons that kids can create from scratch, modify and share with their friends in a rich, safe web environment. \u00a0The <strong><em>ZIMMER TWINS<\/em><\/strong> section on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/qubo.com\/\">qubo.com<\/a><\/u> includes storytelling tools, pre-made animated clips and simple editing instructions that tap into kids\u2019 inherent love of stories. \u00a0The clips and storytelling prompts explore classic kid themes like science, animals, magic and adventure. \u00a0The animation interface is designed around the basic elements of sentence structure, and reinforces reading, grammar, and writing techniques. After creating their stories, users can post and share their creations and even vote for their favorite user-created submissions online. \u00a0In 2007, the <strong><em>ZIMMER<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>TWINS <\/em><\/strong>won the International Interactive Emmy\u00ae Award.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Last fall, nearly 25,000 children logged in to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/qubo.com\/\">qubo.com<\/a> to create nearly 50,000 <strong>qubopic<\/strong><strong> <em>ZIMMER TWINS<\/em><\/strong> films.\u00a0 <strong>Qubo<\/strong> selected twelve stellar user-generated animations to be adapted into professionally animated films, converting them into high-resolution video with broadcast quality color, music and sound effects.\u00a0\u00a0Qubo also enlisted actors to record the character voices and narration created by the filmmakers in their text bubble script. The <strong>qubopics<\/strong> were broadcast on <strong>qubo<\/strong><strong> Channel<\/strong> and on <strong>qubo\u2019s<\/strong> broadcast blocks between December 2008 and February 2009. <\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Since the first round of <strong>qubopic<\/strong><strong> ZIMMER TWINS<\/strong> film began premiering on qubo, the number of films and users has virtually doubled. An additional 66,000 <strong>ZIMMER TWINS<\/strong> films have been created on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/qubo.com\/\">qubo.com<\/a><\/u> in the past few months with more than 110,000 original user-generated animated films now posted on qubo\u2019s site.\u00a0 The number of registered users has more than doubled since December to reach more than 53,000!\u00a0\u00a0 Beyond driving a huge influx of\u00a0 traffic to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/qubo.com\/\">qubo.com<\/a><\/u>,<strong> <\/strong>another measure of the qubopic initiative\u2019s success are the feature stories that were garnered for the twelve young filmmakers among their local media. <\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe were thrilled with the response to our first round of qubopic premieres and can\u2019t think of a better way to honor and thank our viewers than by launching a second effort,\u201d said \u00a0Rick Rodriguez, president and general manager, qubo. \u00a0\u201cWe are proud to showcase the creativity of these talented children on our air.
