{"id":119,"date":"2009-05-22T17:59:20","date_gmt":"2009-05-23T00:59:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/kidsfirstnews\/2009\/05\/22\/uper-why-%e2%80%93-hurray-for-heroes-a-special-two-hour-marathon-on-pbs-kids\/"},"modified":"2009-05-29T11:54:08","modified_gmt":"2009-05-29T18:54:08","slug":"uper-why-%e2%80%93-hurray-for-heroes-a-special-two-hour-marathon-on-pbs-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/kidsfirstnews\/2009\/uper-why-%e2%80%93-hurray-for-heroes-a-special-two-hour-marathon-on-pbs-kids\/","title":{"rendered":"Super WHY! \u2013 Hurray for Heroes, a Special Two-hour Marathon on PBS Kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kidsfirst.org\/images\/blogs\/SuperWhyMemorialDay.jpg\" \/>This Memorial Day, fans young and old  across the nation can celebrate heroes with <strong><em>Super WHY! \u2013 Hurray for  Heroes<\/em><\/strong>, <strong>a special two- hour marathon airing Monday May  25, 2009 on PBS KIDS\u00ae<\/u><\/strong> (check local listings).\u00a0 <em><strong>Super WHY! \u2013 Hurray for  Heroes<\/strong><\/em> will delight preschoolers with two debut interactive  episodes and two returning favorites, featuring the page-turning storybook  adventures of Super Why and his fellow reading superheroes as they unveil what  the power of reading can do.\u00a0 The  special event also\u00a0features never-before-seen live-action interviews  in-between the episodes in which real kids share their thoughts about what it  means to be a hero.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>The special <strong><em>Super WHY! \u2013 Hurray  for Heroes<\/em><\/strong> TV event kicks off a  jam-packed summer of reading-powered fun that also will feature special <strong><em>Super WHY!<\/em><\/strong> theme weeks, online games  and free downloadable materials designed to help families reinforce the literacy  skill building lessons within the series and help nurture their own \u201csuper  readers\u201d at home.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe created <strong><em>Super WHY! <\/em><\/strong>to provide kids with  superhero role models they can relate to \u2013 who show them the power of reading  and that they, too, can look for answers to life\u2019s challenging questions and  problems within books,\u201d said Angela C. Santomero, Creator and Executive Producer  of the series.\u00a0 \u201cMemorial Day  provides a perfect opportunity for us all to reflect on and honor all kinds of  heroes and we\u2019re delighted to bring <strong><em>Hurray for Heroes<\/em><\/strong> to PBS KIDS.\u00a0 The summer months are also the perfect  time for preschoolers to hone their budding reading skills and we\u2019re pleased to  offer a number of great ways for them to do so all summer  long.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In  the action-packed, two-hour <strong><em>Super WHY! \u2013 Hurray for Heroes<\/em><\/strong> TV  event, Super Why and his heroic storybook friends help a fairytale knight face  his fears in the launch of <em>George and the  Dragon<\/em>, travel \u201cover the river and through the woods\u201d in<em> Little Red Riding Hood<\/em>, jump into a  book for an interactive island adventure in the debut of <em>The Swiss Family Robinson<\/em>, and show a  stranded princess how to rescue herself<\/u> in<em>  Rapunzel<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Leading up to the  on-air event, PBS KIDS will feature an all <strong><em>Super WHY!<\/em><\/strong> video player at <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"http:\/\/pbskids.org\/video\" href=\"http:\/\/pbskids.org\/video\">pbskids.org\/video<\/a>  where children can view their favorite clips from the show.\u00a0 Kids can also play fun reading games on  the <strong><em>Super WHY! <\/em><\/strong>Web site which will  launch the new Wonder Red\u2018s Freeze Dance Rhyming Game (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/pbskids.org\/superwhy\">http:\/\/pbskids.org\/superwhy<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The storybook adventures continue in June with the kick-off of a \u201csuper\u201d  special summer reading campaign that will engage kids and caregivers through <strong><em>Super WHY!<\/em><\/strong>\u2019s<strong><em>  <\/em><\/strong>interactive Web site at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/pbskids.org\/superwhy\">pbskids.org\/superwhy<\/a>, and through thousands of  libraries across the U.S.\u00a0  Throughout the season, week-long <strong><em>Super WHY!<\/em><\/strong> Reading Camps will boost  the early literacy skills of preschoolers in communities from coast-to-coast  with learning-rich activities, games, and music. \u00a0\u00a0In August, PBS KIDS will focus on a  different <strong><em>Super WHY!<\/em><\/strong> character each week and  feature never-before-seen episodes of the top-rated  show.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reading is power and <strong><em>Super WHY!<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 is the only<\/u> preschool property  created to help kids learn the fundamentals of reading through interactive  storybook adventures.\u00a0 Produced by  Out of the Blue Enterprises in conjunction with Canadian-based Decode  Entertainment Inc. and C.O.R.E.
