{"id":141,"date":"2009-09-17T10:10:14","date_gmt":"2009-09-17T17:10:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/kidsfirstnews\/2009\/09\/17\/%e2%80%9caround-town-with-cyberchase%e2%80%9d-kicks-off-september-21\/"},"modified":"2009-09-15T10:18:47","modified_gmt":"2009-09-15T17:18:47","slug":"%e2%80%9caround-town-with-cyberchase%e2%80%9d-kicks-off-september-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/kidsfirstnews\/2009\/%e2%80%9caround-town-with-cyberchase%e2%80%9d-kicks-off-september-21\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cAround Town with Cyberchase\u201d Kicks off September 21"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kidsfirst.org\/images\/blogs\/Cyber.jpg\" \/>\u201cAround Town with Cyberchase\u201d kicks off September 21 when <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/kidsfirstnews\/pbskidsgo.org\/cyberchase\">Cyberchase Online<\/a> launches new web videos starring Harry and new activities that encourage kids to explore math in their own neighborhoods.\u00a0 The activities will correlate to five episodes in a weeklong \u201cAround Town\u201d broadcast event on PBS KIDS GO! from October 5 \u2013 October 9, premiering two brand new episodes, \u201cThe Deedle Beast\u201d and \u201cSpellbound\u201d (check local listings).\u00a0 On Cyberchase\u2019s new <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/kidsfirstnews\/facebook.com\/cyberchase\">Facebook page<\/a>, fans will get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the stars of Cyberchase making it all happen.<\/p>\n<p>Cyberchase is a production of THIRTEEN and Title Entertainment, Inc. in association with WNET.ORG \u2013 one of America\u2019s most prolific and respected public media providers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to give on-the-go kids and parents some great ideas on how to incorporate math into their outings around town, whether to the grocery store, the ballpark or the zoo,\u201d says Sandra Sheppard, executive producer for Cyberchase.\u00a0 \u201cWe developed \u2018Around Town with Cyberchase\u2019 to support critical STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering &#038; Math) initiatives in local communities and to give kids and adults the tools to create their own math adventures where they live.\u00a0 We\u2019re also thrilled that the many fans of our Cyberchase For Real star, Harry, have an opportunity to see him in brand new web videos,\u201d she continues.<\/p>\n<p>Two new sets of web-exclusive videos, \u201cThe Harry Show\u201d and \u201cMath on the Street,\u201d launch on September 21 at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/kidsfirstnews\/pbskidsgo.org\/cyberchase\">Cyberchase Online<\/a> and feature Harry, played by actor Matt Wilson, encountering wacky math moments all around New York City.\u00a0 The videos take place in fun spots like the Wildlife Conservation Society\u2019s Central Park Zoo and feature real kids and adults.\u00a0 All the videos are about 1 \u2013 2 minutes long and will be available for streaming or download Cyberchase Online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love meeting kids and finding out how they approach math,\u201d says Wilson.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m really excited because in these web videos, Harry talks with real kids who probably solve problems the same way as many kids at home.\u201d\u00a0 He continues, \u201cI\u2019m always crunching numbers \u2013 leaving a tip, comparison shopping or estimating the time it&#8217;ll take to get to the front of a line.\u00a0 Through these adventures around town, Harry shows kids that we encounter math everywhere, and everyone can be good at it \u2013 often without realizing it!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emmy Award winner Wilson has been the live-action face of Cyberchase for the show\u2019s seven seasons.\u00a0 He is also well known on stage and screen where he has worked with Pulitzer Prize, Tony and Grammy Award winners.\u00a0 Currently he is performing in the World Tour of \u201cThe Circus, Starring Britney Spears.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From Monday, October 5 \u2013 Friday, October 9, \u201cAround Town with Cyberchase\u201d launches on air with five awesome adventures, including two premiere episodes on October 5 and 6.\u00a0 Each episode will tie to a special \u201cAround Town\u201d printable activity at Cyberchase Online.
