DreamWorks Studios, Participant Media and Touchstone Pictures are excited to share Kathryn Stockett\u2019s best-selling debut novel with you.<\/span><\/font>\u00a0<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font> <\/span><\/font>Published over a year ago, and propelled by passionate word of mouth, The Help<\/span><\/em> spent the summer of 2009 circulating on everyone\u2019s \u201cSummer Must Read\u201d lists. It continues to sit on The New York Times\u2019 best-sellers list, where it has remained for 60 straight weeks. DreamWorks\u2019 Stacey Snider and Holly Bario were early fans of the book and jumped on board after the project was acquired by 1492 Pictures. Participant Media recently joined the film and we all couldn\u2019t be more thrilled to bring The Help to life on the big screen, especially for the book\u2019s enthusiastic fan base.<\/span><\/font>\u00a0<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>SYNOPSIS: <\/span><\/font><\/strong>The Help<\/span><\/font><\/em> is a provocative and inspiring look at what happens when a southern town\u2019s unspoken code of rules and behavior is shattered by three courageous women who strike up an unlikely friendship. Set in Mississippi during the 1960s, the film features Skeeter, a southern society girl who returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends\u2019 lives\u2014and a small Mississippi town\u2014upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. Aibileen, Skeeter\u2019s best friend\u2019s housekeeper, is the first to open up\u2014to the dismay of her friends in the tight-knit black community. Despite Skeeter\u2019s life-long friendships hanging in the balance, she and Aibileen continue their collaboration and soon more women come forward to tell their stories\u2014and as it turns out, they have a lot to say. Along the way, unlikely friendships are forged and a new sisterhood emerges\u2014but not before everyone in town has a thing or two to say themselves when they become unwittingly\u2014and unwillingly\u2014caught up in the changing times.<\/span><\/font>\u00a0<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font> <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>A<\/span><\/font><\/strong>BOUT THE CAST:<\/span><\/font><\/strong> <\/span><\/font>Headlining the cast are newcomer Emma Stone<\/span><\/strong> (from last year\u2019s breakout hit \u201cZombieland\u201d) as Skeeter and two-time Tony\u00ae winner and recent Oscar\u00ae nominee Viola Davis<\/span><\/strong> (\u201cEat Pray Love\u201d) as Aibileen. Joining them is Bryce Dallas Howard<\/span><\/strong> (\u201cThe Twilight Saga: Eclipse\u201d) as Hilly, the Junior League President whose obsession with maintaining the social status quo pushes everyone to their breaking point. Octavia Spencer<\/span><\/strong> is headstrong Minnie, Aibileen\u2019s hot-tempered best friend, whose blatant honesty is always getting her in trouble. Jessica Chastain<\/span><\/strong> is Celia, the outcast from the wrong side of the tracks who marries a man above her \u201cstation\u201d and whose desperation to fit in with polite society hides a painful secret.<\/span><\/font>\u00a0<\/span><\/font> <\/span><\/font>Tate Taylor<\/span><\/font><\/strong>, a childhood friend of the author\u2019s, is directing the film from a script he wrote. Brunson Green is producing along with 1492\u2019s Chris Columbus and Michael Barnathan.
