{"id":416,"date":"2010-11-17T01:52:40","date_gmt":"2010-11-17T07:52:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/ranny\/2010\/11\/17\/tangled-a-new-twist-on-the-story-of-rapunzel\/"},"modified":"2010-11-17T16:53:19","modified_gmt":"2010-11-17T22:53:19","slug":"tangled-a-new-twist-on-the-story-of-rapunzel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/ranny\/2010\/tangled-a-new-twist-on-the-story-of-rapunzel\/","title":{"rendered":"Tangled &#8211; A New Twist on the Story of Rapunzel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onclick=\"ps_imagemanager_popup(this.href,'Tangled.jpg','194','288');return false\" onfocus=\"this.blur()\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/ranny\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tangled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"168\" height=\"250\" title=\"Tangled.jpg\" align=\"left\" alt=\"Tangled.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kidsfirst.org\/ranny\/wp-content\/uploads\/.thumbs\/.Tangled.jpg\" border=\"0\" vspace=\"3\" hspace=\"5\" \/><\/a>Walt Disney&#8217;s new animated feature Tangled takes the story of Rapunzel and gives her a proper make-over.\u00a0 When Princess Rapulzel (Mandy Moore) is born with a head full of magical golden hair, an evil old\u00a0 woman, Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy), steals the baby and locks her safely away in a hidden tower.\u00a0 For 18 years, she raises the girl as her own, using the powers of Rapunzel&#8217;s magic hair as her personal fountain-of-youth.\u00a0 Enter the handsome rogue, Flynn Ryder (Zachary Levi).\u00a0 Fresh from stealing the crown jewels, he&#8217;s chased into the woods where he stumbles upon the fabled Tower and encounters the stir-crazy and persuasive Rapunzel and her impossibly long locks.\u00a0 What follows is an adventure-filled trek where the unlikely couple must evade the law, the bad guys and Mother Gothel if they are going to discover romance, redemption and truth.<\/p>\n<p>Tangled covers comfortable territory for Walt Disney Animation &#8211;\u00a0 A beautiful, long-lost princess; a handsome young thief redeemed by love; a conniving, self-centered Mother figure; a family reunion and wedding&#8230;stop me if you&#8217;ve heard this one before.\u00a0 But while the formula may leave you with that deja-vu feeling, the movie leaves you thoroughly entertained.\u00a0 Complete with catchy tunes by the immensely talented Alan Menken, a laugh-out-loud funny script by Dan Fogelman (Cars; Bolt), and engaging performances by the vocal cast, there is a lot to enjoy here.\u00a0 Particularly fun are the animal characters &#8211; a horse who thinks he&#8217;s a dog and a chameleon side-kick with a wicked tongue &#8211; and the gang of baddies turned goodies dubbed the Pub Thugs who, down deep, are just sensitive, frustrated artists.<\/p>\n<p>The film is rated PG for sequences of cartoon violence &#8211; Rapunzel&#8217;s weapon of choice is a cast-iron frying pan which she uses with authority to protect herself.\u00a0\u00a0 Very young children might find Mother Gothel to be a slightly frightening character, especially when she meets her demise.\u00a0 Otherwise, the film is suitable for all ages.\u00a0 (My husband who generally dislikes musicals and my twin 7th graders &#8211; boys &#8211; all loved it, if that&#8217;s any indication!)\u00a0\u00a0Reviewed for KIDS FIRST!
