The film tax incentives, which helped grow the film business in New Mexico for the past 10+ years, were almost squashed by the new Martinez administration. Fortunately, the tax incentives have not gone away and production for the film has commenced on location in New Mexico where exteriors and studio work will be filmed, followed by locations in Arizona, Utah and Colorado. The film reunites the filmmaking team of the first three \u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d blockbusters\u2014producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski\u2014with Johnny Depp.<\/p>\n<p>Depp plays spirit warrior Tonto in \u201cThe Lone Ranger,\u201d with Armie Hammer (\u201cThe Social Network,\u201d \u201cJ. Edgar\u201d) starring in the title role. Depp and Hammer are joined by a prestigious international cast which includes Tom Wilkinson, two-time Academy Award nominee (\u201cMichael Clayton,\u201d \u201cIn the Bedroom\u201d) and Golden Globe\u00ae and Emmy\u00ae winner (\u201cJohn Adams\u201d); William Fichtner (\u201cArmageddon,\u201d \u201cPearl Harbor\u201d and \u201cBlack Hawk Down\u201d); Emmy Award-winner Barry Pepper (\u201cTrue Grit,\u201d \u201cSaving Private Ryan\u201d); James Badge Dale (\u201cThe Grey,\u201d TV\u2019s \u201cThe Pacific\u201d and \u201cRubicon\u201d); Ruth Wilson (TV\u2019s \u201cJane Eyre\u201d and \u201cLuther\u201d); and two-time Academy Award nominee and six-time Golden Globe nominee Helena Bonham Carter (\u201cThe King\u2019s Speech,\u201d \u201cAlice in Wonderland\u201d). Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice\u2014taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Lone Ranger\u201d is written by Ted Elliott &#038; Terry Rossio of \u201cPirates of the Caribbean,\u201d Eric Aronson and Justin Haythe. The executive producers are Mike Stenson, Chad Oman, Ted Elliott, Terry Rossio, Eric Ellenbogen and Eric McLeod.<\/p>\n<p>Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski are joined by a remarkable team of behind-the-scenes artists, including director of photography Bojan Bazelli (Verbinski\u2019s \u201cThe Ring,\u201d \u201cMr. and Mrs. Smith\u201d); visual consultant Mark \u201cCrash\u201d McCreery (production designer of Verbinski\u2019s \u201cRango); costume designer Penny Rose (\u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d films); film editor James Haygood (\u201cPanic Room,\u201d \u201cFight Club\u201d); visual effects supervisor Tim Alexander (\u201cRango,\u201d three \u201cHarry Potter\u201d films); Academy Award\u00ae-winning special effects supervisor John Frazier, a 10-time nominee whose previous collaborations with Jerry Bruckheimer have included \u201cArmageddon,\u201d \u201cPearl Harbor\u201d and, with Verbinski as well, \u201cPirates of the Caribbean: At World\u2019s End\u201d; and stunt coordinator Tommy Harper (\u201cIron Man,\u201d \u201cIron Man 2\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Academy Award\u00ae-winning filmmaker Gore Verbinski has enjoyed tremendous box office success as the innovative director of both character-driven franchises and thoughtful genre-bending fare.  Most recently, Verbinski released his first animated film, the smash hit \u201cRango,\u201d starring Johnny Depp. Grossing over $240 million worldwide, the film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, as well as BAFTA and Annie awards, and received Golden Globe\u00ae and PGA nominations. Verbinski previously helmed the hit franchise \u201cPirates of the Caribbean,\u201d directing the first three films starring Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley. The films have collectively grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide since release. He made his directorial debut with \u201cMouse Hunt,\u201d starring Nathan Lane, followed by the road movie \u201cThe Mexican,\u201d starring Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt and James Gandolfini.
