Lovely production, well shot, great costumes and sets, very good performances - especially by Nick Baldasare. A short that easily adds to the study of Shakespeare's Hamlet. The scene with the marionettes who portray Hamlet's tale is magnificent. The use of mannequins to portray some of the characters is done effectively and makes this more than an oral recitation.
"Horatio, If thou didst every hold me in thy heart...in this harsh world draw thy breath in pain to tell my story." (Hamlet Act 5.2) Using the final words of Shakespeare's dying hero as a point of departure, this short explores what became of Hamlet's revered and trusted friend, Horatio. Directed by Emmy-winner, Jay Woelfel and co-produced by Bowling Green State University, this story draws on Shakespeare's text and original material to create a unique tale that depicts Horatio honoring the last request of his beloved Prince by reenacting the event years later. The scenes unfold in both real and unreal environments amid real, mannequin and marionette cast members.
