KIDS FIRST!® Adult Juror Comments: |

Veggie Tales does not disappoint. When this series first came out, I thought it was preposterous to have characters played by vegetables, albeit animated. But, they started out strong and have only improved with time. Taking classic stories such as Tom Sawyer, they've put a twist on these stories that teach history and values while maintaining a humorous aspect that both kids and adults enjoy. This one, in particular makes a lot of references to pop culture throughout the show. Biblical verses are incorporated into these stories but are not heavy handed. Through song and story, the story addresses life along the Mississippi and focuses on the character, Big Jim who is being punished for a crime he didn't commit. It addresses the formation of the Homesteading Act with Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry just days away from earning the land they've homesteaded. It delivers a strong message to help others. |
