Kids enjoyed it though they were not interested in watching a second time. One viewer mentioned that if they had seen Lyon they would not have known just how much he had to go through in his private life. Although it held their attention most of the time, some definitely lost interest mid-way. They appreciated that it was "a true story about a real person" and commented: "Wow, it must be tough to have a weird disease." "Lyon and his family and friends are really strong, caring people." "The community support was great." They felt the end of the production got a "bit skimpy" and noted that it was difficult to hear what the people were saying at times. Many commented that it was very original and that they had never seen a film like this before." One commented," I am going to check out the website to see what happened and how Lyon Herron is doing." "If I ever have a friend who has a disease and goes to the hospital a lot, I'll be a better friend now because I know how hard it is." They loved when Lyon's friend, CJ was doing flips off the porch and seeing the whole family smiling and laughing together.
Very touching story, well shot but long. Excellent idea and even though Gardner's Disease is quite rare, the truth is that many children, adolescents and adults live daily with a chronic and/or debilitating disease. This film stresses the normalcy of a patient who is also more than that - a person. Especially with kids and teens, they are individuals first and people with health care challenges after that!
