I enjoyed this movie. There are characters that are fun to watch and even though I have never been interested in the Smurfs, I liked seeing them very much. I thought the story line was interesting and enjoyed how the main musical theme was orchestral.
I remember this film from the 80s. The animation is interesting due to the use of color. There are some fun parts such as when William rides a goat and the resourceful creature finds a way to wake William after he has been subjected to the flute's magic. There is a scene where William believes he comprehends the language of the Smurfs only to realize that there are nuances within the words they use that he can't grasp. The songs are difficult to listen to - the music had harsh chords, unmelodious and the lyrics are very repetitive. The characters' actions during these segments are the only things that save them.
Court Jester Peewit uses his magical flute to make everyone dance-until the dancing turns dangerous! When the thief McCreep takes the flute to steal gold, it's the Smurfs to the rescue as Papa Smurf devises a plan to save the kingdom!
