I highly recommend this Chinese film which is sub-titled in English. I found it very interesting and appealing to a wide age range. Both children and adults would enjoy it. The story is mystical and engaging. They storyline is truly wonderful. It is about a young boy who goes in search of a genie to help restore his sister's eye sight and secondarily to find his lost football. Another thing I find very appealing is how it gives us insight into a culture which many have not have seen before. Simultaneously, it allows one to enter a fantasy world which is enchanting and confusing all at once. The story holds your attention from beginning to end and, although a bit slow moving at times, is very rewarding. It would make a child think about their own situation in life and draw comparisons to the children in this story. It flows well and has suitable vocabulary for a youth audience. The cinematography is truly spectacular. The sets quite impressive. You can easily imagine what life is like for these people. This movie is definitely "out of the Box!" It is interesting in every way and quite different from what American youth are normally exposed to. You are never quite sure what might happen next and the ending itself is quite unpredictable. Highly recommended for ages 5 to 18 as well as adults. I give this 5 out of 5 stars. Reviewed by Hanna M and Julie S., KIDS FIRST! Jurors.
