Very lovely short film that addresses a few things that school age kids deal with from bullying to friendship to keeping it all together. We see young Shoala struggling with all these things - making friends with the new girl at school, dealing with her best friend's jealousy and dealing with the obnoxious boy bullies. We see her hide her feelings from her mom, acting sully and withdrawn until everything falls apart and she finally confides in Mom and deals with her issues as a result. The ending song with all the girls in the studio together with the Mom is the icing on the cake. Nicely done. Great film for later elementary and middle school kids.
Often misjudged as disorganized and uninterested in life, only 11-year-old Shola truly knows the internal conflict she faces and the pressures of dealing with the school bully until she meets the new girl Karena and they share a common bond. So why is her best friend Annabelle upset and her life more complicated? You're Beautiful, a story about self acceptance, reaching out and friendship.
