BILLY BLUE HAIR - WHY DO GIRAFFES HAVE LONG NECKS? cover image
The computer animations are cute and the live action portions captivating. It is jam packed with information about habitat, size and stature. Definitions are provided for unfamiliar terms such as "zebras are herbivores which means they mainly eat grasses." The information goes well beyond the basics for children, such as explanations of the appetites and calls of the animals. Kids who are interested in such details will appreciate this show, others may just find the images of the various animals enjoyable. Parts of the video images are a bit washed out, lacking the crispness that we expect from nature shows. While the narration, by the charming teen-aged Billy Blue Hair is clear and easy to understand, the background music lacks luster.
A new half-hour education series for children, combining animation and live action teaching kids facts about animals. Billie Blue Hair has lost his Dog, Doggie. As Billy searches for Doogie within the show, Billy becomes the guide and educator as he interacts with a variety of animals including the American bison, Siamang apes, lemur monkeys, giraffes, zebras and lions. With the help of animation, Billy Blue Hair encourages children to use their imaginations to understand the animal world.
