Compelling. Written, shot and edited by teens who are exploring their own worlds. Each segment is appropriate for certain groups. Programmers should review the entire DVD and carefully select which titles are appropriate for their population. I would like to see some segments based in Colombia watched by at-risk kids, especially Latino populations. "Content doesn't get any better than this." It is very powerful to hear young people show us their troubles in their part of the world and how they cope. The fact that they do cope and aspire to change the world transcends the powerless response that world affails triggers in many young people.
What do youth fear most in their lives? How do they overcome those fears? This collection is a creative burst of defiance and hope by teenagers who are overcoming the huge obstacles and ignorance that have defined their lives. It's an inspiring compilation of 9 shorts written, shot and edited by teens who weave documentary filmmaking, animation and archival footage to tell personal stories about fear and security. With mentorship from professional filmmakers, youth produced films that are powerful, startling and awe inspiring. With stories from Afghanistan, Argentina, Colombia, Jordan, Guatemala, Sierra Leone, Ukraine and the United States, these youth-produced films will challenge audiences to redefine fear and the priorities we make in a post 9/11 world. Includes: Rapping at Fear (Bogata, Columbia); We Don't Want No War (Sierra Leone, W.Africa), Sahar: Before the Sun (Charlottesville, VA), History Lessons (Evanston, IL), I'm Not a Boy (New York, NY).
