HEY HEY IT
Great music, funny opening that shows us just how conformed the girls are at this school. Ester is an anomaly though. Clever writing and acting, weaving together a solid story that grabs you from the get go. The quirky and strange approach this films takes on is original and compelling. Any teen would enjoy the event and could easily relate to them. It doesn't try to sugar coat situations that teens face or how they deal with them. However, it still offers a great deal of fantasy. There are a few questionable elements that might be problematic to some. For example, Sunny's mother is a stripper and the teens visit her at the strip club. Also there is a talk about losing her virginity, underage smoking and a boy asking to touch Ester's boobs. But, the good way overshadows the negative. This is an awesome film about coming of age. Absolutely loved it!
From the mind numbing conformity of her all-girls private school to her mothers demand for perfection, Esther Blueburger is an outsider in her own world. But when Esther meets Sunni and her mother Mary she learns that its okay to be different, and being true to yourself is more important than fitting in.
