This film, with little narrative, portrays a simple but compelling story. What is it that makes us bond with animals. We see the passage of time through the man's changes of clothing, the seasons changing and, cleverly, the growing tomato plants on his patio. We see the man change from having an initial fear of the stray dog to becoming close with it, even protecting it from an unruly neighbor.
A single man living in Montreal finds himself the object of a dog's attention. Sitting in his backyard, where he enjoys spending time, the man is torn by wanting to have this unplanned and unasked for connection in his life and his fear of the dog. In the end, just when he thinks he is comfortable with the arrangement, the dog takes it up to a new level.
