The election is set so everyone can vote for the contestants based on the different opinions expressed in their speeches. Everyone can remain friends. Then the plot takes a twist. As Strawberry gets ready for the celebratory parade, she learns that being a leader isn't all it's cracked up to be. She and her friends are overwhelmed and starting to treat each other poorly. Not only do we see how the election process works - from campaigning to advertising and speech-making - but we also see how everyone can celebrate each other's best qualities and support each other, even when times are tough. Our youth viewers felt the movie appealed more to girls than boys because "it's got girly stuff in it and all the people are girls except for one guy."
Democracy hits Berryland as Strawberry Shortcake and Orange Blossom compete to become the Berryfest Princess. At first the town is divided by the friendly competition. But then, Strawberry and her friends learn that competing for a title doesn't mean that people have to pick favorites.
