A girl's relationship with a dog transforms her from a shy 10-year-old to one of confidence. The story provides hope for kids from "broken homes" with parents who are dealing with problems of their own. Some clearly objectionable behavior by adults who drink too much and mistreat their dogs; and some VERY poor role models. The relationship between the young girl, Kerrie, and Sierra the dog, is very appealing.
