I've been enjoying the movie Madeline, based on the classic children's books about a brave little girl who goes to boarding school in Paris. There are twelve girls at the school and Madeline is the smallest but also the toughest. She is also an orphan, a girl with no parents. Hatty Jones is perfect as the red-haired Madeline. I believed she was the Madeline from the books right away. The school's head-mistress, Miss Clavel, played by Frances McDormand, is a loving nun who gives Madeline extra attention and goodnight prayers.
One of the funniest things about Madeline is that she always finds her way to trouble. She falls in the River Seine, secretly adopts a dog and frees a giant cage of mice. When the school is in danger of being sold, Madeline comes to save the day with more of her fun and wacky ideas.
I loved the fun and bouncy soundtrack and all the beautiful scenes on the streets of Paris. Will the girls have to give up their beloved stray dog? Will Madeline's plan save the school?
I suggest Madeline for kids that like action and a sweet story. I think even boys will like it. It's a fun adventure for the whole family to watch together. I give it a perfect five-out-of-five stars.
