Excellently composed, this film shows the depth of a child's emotions and struggle for acceptance. The emotion of the girl coping with her mother dating again couldn't have been depicted more accurately and by the end of the film, all the characters undergo a character shift by confronting and accepting the problems of their past that have been holding them back. The outcome of this film was pretty predictable, but heart-warming nonetheless. The benefits of this film is that it teaches children to move on and to stop dwelling on the uncontrollable hardships that they face because there's always promise of a better tomorrow.
Delightful film that is just right for young tween girls. Kay Panabaker portrays Moondance Alexander with a verge that's believable. Don Johnson, who we haven't seen in too many films lately, makes the transition from a slightly curmudgeonly horseman to a willing participant when urged on by Moondance. Beautiful horse scenes that will hold the attention of horse lovers for certain. This film deals with a darker subject matter than most films which is probably what gives this film power. The girl in this film has to deal with the death of her father, her mother's decision to date again, and rude classmates. On top of that, her crush is her mother's potential boyfriend's son. But once she befriends Checkers the horse and Dante, she begins to defy and help people defy the rut of depressions everyone is in. Dante learns through this little girl that even though he had a catastrophic incident during a horse race years ago, dwelling on such misfortunes only lead to more unhappiness and bitterness. This film is a wonderful story for anybody whose ever felt like they couldn't move on because of the fear that things will never change.
Spunky and unique, 12-year old Moondance Alexander (Kay Panabaker, Nancy Drew) has a hard time making friends, but a chance meeting with Checkers, a wild pinto, changes her life. Together with the help of a down-and-out show rider, Dante (Don Johnson, Tin Cup), Moondance discovers that sometimes fitting in is less important than moving on and riding it out. Starring Kay Panabaker, Don Johnson, Lori Loughlin, Sasha Cohen
