In this college student film, Jemila is just a regular girl, looking for a fairytale that fits her own life. She writes a book about a new kind of princess but the kids are confused. She insists on adding it to the library. There is no happy ending in Jemila's Tale, but there is a sense of acceptance and accomplishment. Jemila shows a sense of pride in who she is, and is unwilling to bend to society's unrealistic expectations. She is a princess, in the true sense.
A young Black girl named Jemila decides to write her own fairytale for class show until she discovers there are no princesses like her in the library books. When the story she writes comes to life, Jemila's father soon comes to realize that his daughter's tale is about much more: Sometimes bad things happen.
