Love this film. Not only does it deliver a very appropriate environmental message to grade school children but a message about staying true to what you believe in as well. The little girl never wavers in her protectiveness towards the tree. I also love seeing the lifestyle of the children in Singapore. From the beginning of the film, we see them transported to school by smiling, caring adults. We see them lined up in the school gymnasium at the start of each day to exercise together and receive announcements. The cast is simply delightful, starting with the young girl and extending to all the children, the girl's parents and the school faculty. This would make a lovely addition to any film festival for school age children.
A wonderfully sweet story from Singapore about a young girl who lives an idyllic life with her loving parents and loving school. One fine day, she goes on a field trip to the Botanical Gardens and she is greatly impacted by the message about the importance of trees. Going home, she tells her parents that she wants to change her mind about her impending birthday gift and rather than get what she had asked for previously, wants a tree. She cares for the tree and visits it every day. Eventually, she speaks to her class about "My Best Friend" and - it is her tree. Then, trouble comes in the form of a greedy developer who buys the land her tree is on. The girl does everything she can to save her tree, all to no avail until the developer agrees to sell her the land around the tree in order for her to protect it. The price - $8K.
