I just finished watching Disney's Pete's Dragon. Pete's Dragon was funny and very enjoyable. Pete (Sean Marshall) is a boy, who is abused by his adoptive family and runs away with his dragon, Elliot (voice by Charlie Callas). Pete and Elliot run until they come to Passamaquaddy, where Pete tries to fit in, but the invisible Elliot unintentionally causes problems and the townspeople blame Pete. Luckily, Pete meets Nora (Helen Reddy), who lives with her father, Lampie (Mickey Rooney), waiting for the love of her life to return from the sea. Nora wants Pete to live with her so she can take care of him and give him a family. Lampie is the only one who sees the dragon at first, but as the townspeople find out about Elliot, they are not happy about having a dragon in town. Well, except for Dr. Terminus (Jim Dale) a conman that wants to capture Elliot for "medical" purposes. The Gogans catch up with Pete and try to force him to come home with them, but to find out what happens to Pete, Elliot and their new family you have to watch the movie!

Pete's Dragon is a musical, which I love. Though the singing was great overall, I did not think that some of the singers had a very good tone to their voice. I was not impressed by the dancing, but it was choreographed to fit the time period of the movie. The cinematography is a bit blurry. Mickey Rooney does a great job. He is the perfect fit for his role as an often drunk but loveable dad.

The animation of Elliot is really cool. My dad told me that when Pete's Dragon was made artists had to hand-draw every single one of Elliot's movements. That meant thousands of drawings!

The best part of the movie is that it made my little brother and me laugh. I rate Pete's Dragon 4 stars and think kids 8 and under will love it! Hunter Willow Jones, age 11, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic.

This is a magical, musical adventure movie by Disney. This is a live action movie mixed with animation. The only animated character is Elliott, the invisible pet dragon.

Pete (Sean Marshall) is an orphan that runs away from the abusive Cogan family. The best part of the movie is how they put the live background and live foreground with Elliott the dragon in the middle.

I love it when Elliott does not fly so smoothly and is always breaking things with his clumsiness. The villains in the movie are not too creepy; they are more silly than scary. Nora (Helen Reddy) is a great singer! She sings "Candle on the Water" in this movie and it's awesome. Her father, Lampie (Mickey Rooney), is a very funny character. I enjoy watching him throughout the movie. At first Nora thought that Elliott is Pete's imaginary friend and plays along with the story. At the end she realizes the true friendship that Pete and Elliott have for each other.

The only part I did not like when the teacher punishes Pete. It was too sad. The beginning is slow, but the ending will be a surprise. The important lessons in this movie are friendship, acceptance, and family love. I rank this movie 4 out of 5 stars. Kids ages 6-10 will enjoy this magical adventure movie. Walt Disney's Pete's Dragon (1977) is definitely a family classic. I really enjoy the mix of humor and excitement, and of live action and animation. It isn't very realistic and or as imaginative as the newer Disney films, and at times I lose my interest but it sparks again with a couple of great songs.

Although the Dragon is getting on Pete's nerves, Pete still loves and cares for him which is really nice. He likes and trusts his friend the Dragon. Pete's Dragon is about an orphan boy, Pete (Sean Marshall) and his magical dragon, Elliot (voice of Charlie Callas). They come to town with his abusive adoptive parents chasing after them. Upon arrival to town, they meet some new friends and unwanted enemies. What an adventure as this Dragon causes much confusion and turmoil! Don Chaffey directs Pete's Dragon and the film also stars Helen Reddy and Jim Dale.

They did a good job on restoring this classic film. I believe older ages will be uninterested with the film; however the younger kids will definitely enjoy it, so I'm recommending Pete's Dragon for ages 5 to 10. Overall, I give Pete's Dragon 3 out of 5 stars because it was somewhat unrealistic and too long, but still has some action and a little adventure that can be enjoyable.
