Oh my gosh, I absolutely love this short film. It so reminds me of my own childhood, which was completely different but has elements of similarity. First, the writing is exceptional. I love that narrator, without whom this piece would not make the impact it does. The narrator helps us know what's going on in young Bruno's mind. The characters are excellent and well defined, as well as well acted, particularly the young actor that plays Bruno, Terrence Little Gardenhigh. Very good camera work and editing. Good sound effects. It's really a perfect short film for a tween and teen audience, ages 10 to 18, plus adults. Adults will get the nostalgic aspect of it. I give this 5 out of 5 stars as it really is that well done. This will play well at festivals geared for youth and families. Reviewed by Julie S., KIDS FIRST! juror.
It was a blistering hot day, and, as a chubby kid on summer break, Bruno's only goals were to avoid his chores and stay cool while awaiting the sweet jingle of the ice cream truck. After emerging victorious in his quest for frozen delights, things didn't go as planned, and the sugar high only lasted so long. Whether it was the heat, the sugar crash or serendipity, he won't ever know, but what happened next turned that day into one he could never forget.
