I love the Romeo and Juliet vampire and werewolf concept of A Tale of Claws and Fangs! You need to keep in mind that the cast members are all young children and, as such, their portrayal of these characters is commendable.

In a twist of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the two "lovers'' are werewolves and vampires who are trying to make peace between their respective families. They must figure out a way to bring their two warring families together.

I really enjoyed the story and the concept, although the actors are so young that their efforts to portray the depth of love between Romeo and Juliet is a stretch. The production details and the costumes are the best part of film. I really love all the costumes for the characters and the makeup, especially for the werewolves. It really enhances the werewolves' appearance. All the costumes are very good, including the hunters' costumes. The lighting and depth of detail in the forest are pretty good, although it's a bit dark at times. The cinematography is very well executed. The forest scenery is beautiful and provides the perfect location for the story's visualization. The music is good and drives the story well. I really loved the sound effects for the werewolves' howls and snarls. For a student production, this is quite good and should be an incentive for other youth groups teaching acting and / or filmmaking to young people. It is directed and edited by Luca Tedesco with music by Travis Cruse; costumes by Erin Perry. The costumes are my favorite part! I love the elegance of the vampire costumes and the werewolf makeup. The costumes elevate this film to look like larger production.

The message of this film is that determination and cleverness can work to bring together diverse groups.

I give A Tale of Claws and Fangs 3.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 15, plus adults. Reviewed by Selene W. and Julie S., KIDS FIRST!
