KNIGHT IN THE TIGER
I like The Knight in the Tiger's Skin with its animation style that feels like a moving watercolor, yet clearly displays all the characters. I also like the clarity of the storyline; from start to finish the protagonist's goal is clear. One drawback is that in some of the horse riding scenes we only hear the sounds, neither the horses nor the characters are moving.

The story follows Prince Tariel who is on a mission to rescue his lover, Nestan and, despite numerous tries, he keeps on failing. After many failures, as a tribute to her, he wears a tiger skin, which reminds him of her. Finally, helps comes from a unexpected source.

The storyline is very easy to follow and the action of the film makes it exciting. The character growth we see in Prince Tariel shows his will and determination. The costumes and background are well executed and exotic. It's unclear where or when this film takes place, but we image it is from some unfamiliar land some time ago. The background music works well with the film; it is somewhat nostalgic and remote. The animation is my favorite aspect of the film; it's realistic, but not too realistic, especially when it could be potentially scary. My favorite part is when the battle slowly unfolds. This story teaches us about the importance of not giving up and knowing that help can come from different sources.

The message of the film is about the importance to persevere and accept help if needed. It does have some scenes of sword fighting, that could be disturbing for younger kids.

I give The Knight in the Tiger's Skin 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 18, plus adults. By Tom W., KIDS FIRST!

Prince Tariel is in the quest for his captured love, Nestan, but he fails. All attempts are in vain. He retires to a cave to live in the wilderness. Since then, he dresses in tiger skin, a reminder of his love. Help comes unexpectedly.
