Invasion Of The Dream Catchers made me smile as it is clear that the cast enjoyed making this and that comes across in the film. It's a clever story told to conclusion in the short film, which I find entertaining.

This is a horror film where two children come across a pod which captures their dreams and the children's lives are changed forever - but, will it be for better or for worse? It is a British made film, so the children speak with British accents.

This is perfect for Halloween where reality becomes distorted. I like how the story is told thru the children's eyes, where most of the points of view are theirs. As the story moves to conclusion it becomes clear what the mysterious pod is actually doing and this is cleverly explained at the end. The camerawork is quite good; it clearly shows the actors in each scene as well as their surroundings, which help us see that this all happens in a normal, everyday kind of location. The locations include a small park where they discover the pod, a home where indoor scenes take place and a school classroom. The costume that stands out is when the young girl changes into a vampire - it is clever and entirely suits the film. As an adult, it made me smile however, depending on the age of the viewer, it may be frightening. Both her costume and her speech are affected. The music at the end, under the credits, is perfect and compelling enough to make you stay and read the credits.

The pod, which is central to the plot has a simple, homemade feel about it, especially when, at one part, it flashes red. I like this scene, because it shows how enjoyable this film must have been to make for all entire cast and crew. The two protagonists are brother (Gianluca Domizio) and sister (Chiara Domizio) who are featured throughout the film and are both quite adorable. The actors play their roles very well. We see the sister change into a vampire as the pod takes effect and Chiara plays the part quite well. I particularly love her vampire teeth, which are sort of funny looking. The brother doesn't react to her change in appearance at all! Then, when she goes to school dressed as a vampire, the teacher just takes it in stride, except that she expels her. Both of their performances are engaging for the viewer. My favorite scene is when the children find the green pod initially; I like how this large green pod is only noticed by two children in a busy park and when we see it the first time it makes you smile. I also like the sound effects that accompany finding the green pod and carrying it to their home.

The message of the film is that it's fun to use your imagination to create something to entertain people. In the context of this review there is a short scene where the children watch a brief clip of a very old horror movie scene - it's not scary for average adult viewers, but I would be mindful of younger age groups as it may be way to frightening for them.

I give Invasion Of The Dream Catchers 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 12, plus adults. By Richard L., KIDS FIRST!
