The storyline follows children who find are living in a war zone but emerge into a world with a hopeful future. It begins in a dark woods with the children running to escape. Gradually, little people appear with lanterns to light the children's way out of the woods. As the foliage moves closer together, preventing their escape, birds appear to help them escape by flying away. They land in a peaceful meadow with a little cottage nearby and we feel a sense of hope for them.

This one minute film from the Netherlands is intended to give hope to a child who is experiencing life in a war zone. It offers hope for children, that their lives will not always be in a place where war brings darkness to their lives, but offers the idea that they will sometime have a peaceful life. The animation is stunningly beautiful and the narration is quite touching. However, I'm not sure how much real impact a short film like this might have on the audience it is intended for. I will say that, as an adult, I found it hopeful and beautiful. I hope a child will find it that way also. Kudos to zge Tigli Tasli and zgr Can Alkan for their excellent work creating this beautiful piece and to Bisola Oduwole Suleiman for her narration.

The message is about giving hope to children who are living in a war zone.

I give War Child 3 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 5 to 12. By Julie S., KIDS FIRST!

This animation was made for War Child, an organization giving psychological support to children living in war zones. The story follows children who find themselves in a war zone but ends with a hopeful future away from war and conflict. It begins in the darkness of woods but things change towards the end with support from others in the world. The film's message is that children need support in the most difficult time of their lives, and it encourages them to rediscover their joy, happiness and freedom.
