VOLUNTEER TRAINEE - JUST BE COOL WHEN YOU ARE YOUNG cover image
This short film from Taiwan really captured my attention. It gives us an inside look into the regimens of a team of high school students training for the marching band and honor and color club. This is not for the weak of body or mind! It is strenuous and precise.

This film follows a high school student, Li Ying-zhen, as she learns more about the Marching Band and Honor and Color Guard Club at Shin Min Senior High School, trying to see if she could become one of them successfully. As she examines each of the three clubs, she shares with the audience how these groups train and all that is involved in becoming a member.

This film is documentary style, hosted by the petite Li Ying-zhen, as she pursues a position for herself with one of these three clubs. The audience follows along while she examines how each team works and which team is most appropriate for her. This film gives you an idea of why this school's team is so successful. They move with a precision that only comes from hours and hours of practice. As you watch these kids practice and perform, you can understand why their team has won more awards than any other team in Taichung, a large city in central Taiwan with more than 2.83 million residents. The amount of physical acuteness required is extreme and we get an idea of what it requires as we watch the two teams train. From calisthenics to learning how to properly handle a rifle or a flag, every position has its own unique demands. Well produced with excellent video and audio, great voice overs and interviews.

his film's message it informative about the Marching Band and Honor and Color Guard Club at Shin min Senior High School, allowing us an inside look behind-the-scenes.

I give Volunteer Trainee - Just be Cool When You are Young 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 18, plus adults. By Merissa St., KIDS FIRST!

A Marching Band and Honor & Color Guard Club is actually composed of three different student clubs. They're independent but interdependent, a group focusing on discipline, posture and teamwork! Li Ying-zhen, our volunteer trainee, is now visiting the Marching Band and Honor & Color Guard Club in Shin Min Senior High School, the most-winning team in Taichung, to see if she could become one of them successfully.
