What an impressive film, from a 12-year-old no less. (He was 10 when he started it) It captured my interest from the get go and held it through to the end - and the ending implies a sequel - oh good!

The storyline follows a young boy, Fedor, who discovers a locked safe buried on the property of his house and how he and his friends undertake the task of unlocking the safe to discover its secrets.

This is really well made - excellent video, audio recording, editing - it's all there. There are a couple of shots that are out of focus or lack great lighting, but nothing that makes it unwatchable. The storyline is very clever and fun. It's a mystery that seeks solving and Fedor is obsessed with solving it. My favorite line is "I would never have to go to school" - when imagining the safe would be full of money.

The film's message is expressed by Fedor's mom: Life is never what you imagine it to be, but what you make it to be. And your reactions set the tone on how you feel. Furthermore, she tells him that this is all not for nothing; you will have a story to tell the rest of your life.

I give Down Safe 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 12, plus adults.
