I have mixed feelings about this short film only because of the ending.

The story is about a little girl who wishes on a dandelion for a friend and gets a magical lion. She draws pictures of herself and the lion and they become real. In the end though, like a dandelion, the lion begins losing its white fluffy stuff and... well, we don't know what happens.

This animation is so darn cute! The little girl is adorable with her yarn like hair, big mask and big eyes. The lion is also cute as can be with its mismatched eyes. The movement of these two is well executed and smooth. My favorite part is when they play hide and seek and the lion's attempt to hide is quite humorous. My least favorite part is the ending, which seems to indicate that the lion slowly is disassembled like a dandelion at the end of summer. But, it's unclear. For young children, this would unsettling.

The film's message is that everything is temporal.

I give My Friend the Dandelion 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 12, due to the unsettling ending. By Charlotte R., KIDS FIRST!
