Darth Maul of Kintyre is an admirable LEGO stop-motion effort by a fifth-grade student, following a "day in the life" of the iconic Sith Lord as he navigates daily routines, family life, and a call to action from Palpatine.

Created, written, and directed by young filmmaker Armon--who also provides all the voiceovers--the film features fun touches, including Star Wars-style opening text scrolls, creative sets, and a well-executed lightsaber battle. While stop-motion animation is notoriously tedious, the film suffers from technical shortcomings like inconsistent focus, choppy character movement, and unclear facial details. Furthermore, the unlicensed use of the song "Mull of Kintyre" prevents it from qualifying for festival play under fair use guidelines.

Despite some mild LEGO violence, the film delivers a funny, action-packed ending with the message to always be prepared for the unexpected.

We give Darth Maul of Kintyre 2.5 out of 5 stars. While it is a commendable effort, we do not recommend it for the KIDS FIRST! Film Festival due to technical and copyright issues. Reviewed by Motunrayo A. and Julie S., KIDS FIRST!
