WISHING PEARL, THE cover image
The Wishing Pearl is a fun, imaginative short film created, written, and directed by young filmmakers AJ Lister and Sophia Arias. The story follows two mermaids, Glimmer and Crystal, who magically gain legs and set off to experience human life.

Lister and Arias bring winning personalities, beautiful styling, and infectious humor to their roles. While the plot has continuity issues--such as the mermaids struggling to walk but seamlessly learning to roller skate--the visual effects, camera work, and editing are impressively executed for an elementary school production. The scene where the duo first transitions to humans and navigates having legs is a creative, funny highlight.

Celebrating new experiences and enduring friendship, The Wishing Pearl delivers a charming, wholehearted adventure.

I give The Wishing Pearl 3.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 5 to 12. Reviewed by Selene W., KIDS FIRST!
